My Approach

Supporting you with care, respect and understanding

We begin with a brief phone call to connect and see if we feel I will be the right person for your needs. This gives you the opportunity to ask questions and share a little about what has brought you to counselling. If it feels right to move forward, we can then arrange a time and place to meet for your first session, where we will begin exploring what you would like support with in a safe and supportive environment.

Together we can talk about a counselling modality that aligns with you, below are some examples of how we may work together

Heart Element

Person-Centred Approach

A humanistic therapy that emphasises empathy, unconditional positive regard, and congruence. The therapist provides a non-judgemental environment where the client leads the process, fostering self-awareness and growth.

Flower

Narrative Therapy

Focuses on the stories people tell about their lives. Clients are supported to “re-author” dominant problem-saturated narratives and identify strengths, values, and alternative stories.

Hand with heart

Somatic Therapy

Integrates mind–body awareness, recognising that trauma and stress can be held in the body. Techniques may include breathwork, grounding, and tracking bodily sensations.

Butterfly

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

A structured, goal oriented approach that explores how thoughts, feelings, and behaviours interact. Enabling a person to identify and challenge unhelpful thinking patterns and develop practical coping strategies.

Feather

Art Therapy

Uses creative processes (drawing, painting, sculpture) to support emotional expression and insight, particularly when verbal expression is difficult.

Heart 2

Walk and Talk Therapy

Therapy conducted outdoors while walking. Movement and nature can support regulation, reduce anxiety, and facilitate more open conversation. Draws from ecotherapy principles.

Hands in shape of heart

Play Therapy

Play is helpful when working alongside children and young people. Utilises play as a medium for expression, communication, and processing experiences in a developmentally appropriate way at the pace of the young person.

Two Hearts

Home Visit (In-Home Therapy)

Therapy delivered in the client’s home environment. Often used with new parents or for connecting with whānau. May also be helpful for children or young people to be in their own environment. Or for advocacy accessing community services and support.
